Meet the Directors: Vijo and Chanina

Vijo and Chanina have faithfully dedicated nearly three decades to the Ark Jarabacoa—beginning first as house parents and now directors for the past 24 years.

Their role as house parents blessed them immensely but also brought challenges of raising biological children alongside children in the program who come from deeply traumatic and difficult backgrounds. “It was a job that let me be a mom to my kids while also serving other children in need,” Chanina shared. As a couple, Vijo and Chanina reflect on the transformation they have had the privilege of witnessing in the lives of children and youth: “The [children] arrive emotionally destroyed, physically too... but seeing that change—it gives you the desire to keep going.”

As directors, their leadership has expanded to include guiding a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, educators, and administrators. Though the work is complex, their commitment to the ministry remains steadfast and dependent on God’s provision. “This job can’t be done with human strength,” Vijo said. “We must depend completely on God. That dependence brings peace. We don’t push our own agendas—we wait on God. Every step we take in this ministry is His.”

From young years…

…to university graduation

To supporters, they offer sincere gratitude: “[Supporters] are helping transform lives—many they may never meet—but the impact is real, and it’s lasting. They are partners with us in the Kingdom of God.” When asked his dreams for the next five years, Vijo stated his desire for more individuals to join their team and “know the joy of saying, ‘Here I am, Lord. Send me.’” Vijo and Chanina’s unwavering commitment to providing support to vulnerable youth continues to influence many lives and reflect the compassionate care of Christ.

We praise God for His work in and through this amazing couple!

Join us in praying for Vijo and Chanina as they continue to faithfully serve children and youth at the Ark Jarabacoa.
