In the Dominican Republic, baseball isn’t just a pastime—it’s a national passion and a multi-million-dollar industry. The country ranks in the top five worldwide for producing professional baseball players, and for many young boys, the dream of signing a contract feels like a ticket to financial freedom.
But behind the glory lies a harder truth: many talented young athletes leave school in pursuit of that dream, becoming tangled in damaging cycles of substance abuse and pulled away from their homes and communities. For those whose baseball careers don’t materialize, they are left without an education, career skills, or a clear path forward.
In the heart of the barrios of Constanza, Kids Alive Dominican Republic offers a different vision.
Our after-school baseball program currently serves 107 boys, ages 6–18, led by five dedicated coaches.
The baseball program is designed to challenge players physically while guiding them toward a life rooted in faith and purpose.
Every practice blends competitive play with intentional discipleship:
Bible-centered devotions teach what it means to live with integrity, perseverance, and godliness.
Life skills training equips players with self-control, teamwork, and conflict resolution tools they can carry beyond the field.
Healthy physical training keeps them strong, disciplined, and active in a safe, structured environment.
Participation in the program also keeps boys engaged in school, since staying on the team requires consistent effort in the classroom. It provides an alternative to being on the streets after school hours—the reality for many children and youth in the under-resourced and underserved communities of Constanza. And it builds perseverance, patience, and discipline that serve them far beyond the game.
This program has already borne eternal fruit—multiple young men have made decisions to follow Christ through their involvement. For them, the baseball field became a place where the gospel came alive, not just in words, but in the daily example of coaches who invest deeply in their lives.
