Chucho & Alida

“Inspiring” is the word that comes to mind when I think about Alida and Chucho,” says Vic Trautwein, Co-Country Director for Kids Alive Dominican Republic (KADR).

For more than 15 years, Alida and Alberto—affectionately known as Chucho—have faithfully led Club Uni, the discipleship and university/vocational scholarship program, walking alongside young adults as mentors and spiritual guides. But their service goes back much further. Between them, they have served KADR for 50 years, shaping generations of youth for God’s glory.

Alida & Chucho leading Club Uni

Chucho, beloved in the community for his encouragement and energy, is the director of the ANIJA School secondary campus and leads the KADR soccer club, which now includes more than 300 students. His heart for discipleship extends far beyond the classroom and field, instructing youth in teamwork, perseverance, and trust in God to help them navigate day-to-day challenges while also preparing them for long term success.

Alida, who first entered the ministry as a youth in 1985, now serves as the Administrative Director of KADR’s largest school ANIJA. With over 30 years of service, she combines her law degree, leadership skills, and deep compassion to help guide hundreds of students and families.

Reflecting on her work, Alida shares:
“For me, what I enjoy most is being able to spend time with the youth, connect with them, and help them move forward and improve their lives, encouraging them to know more about God. It gives me joy to touch their lives and to have the opportunity to be someone they can turn to for support when they need it.”

Together, Alida and Chucho embody the heart of KADR’s mission—discipling, equipping, and walking with young people so they may grow in faith, character, and leadership. Their unwavering dedication is recognized not only by their peers but also by the many youth who look to them as trusted role models and mentors. When faced with difficult circumstances, many KADR youth seek refuge and counsel from Alida and Chucho.

We are grateful to God for the lives and leadership of this remarkable couple. Their legacy is one of faith in action—rooted in love for Christ and lived out through service to the next generation.
